So...............What's all this about then?
The Crossed Blades is an independent website run by supporters of Sheffield
United Football Club, offering a 'fans eye view' on the latest goings-on at
Beautiful Down Town Bramall Lane. We are not affiliated to the club or any
network of supporter sites. This ensures that our right to speak honestly about
matters as we see them is not compromised.
How long has the site been around?
The website was 'born' on the 17th September 2007. During the end of the 2006
season controversy erupted over legitimacy of a certain Mr Carlos Tevez, and his
eligibility to play for West Ham United. A group of supporters who were
contributers to the BBC 606 forum became fed up with the constant barrage of
endless drivel being posted on the Sheffield United board about the subject and
so a 'Virtual Pub' was born were any topic of conversation was allowed except
'Carlos Tevez'. The thread became popular attracting thousands of postings and
grew from there. A weekly predictions competition started and with the number of
competitors it became impossible to list all the required information on 606 and
so a central place was required - Hence this website appeared. The website now
continues to grow from there with ideas both of 'The Landlord' and suggestions
put forward by the fans.
Who's the Landlord and who runs the site?
On here I'm simply known as Vamps. On 606 I'm Halfvampire_Halfman - a parody
user name based on the Marvel comic book character Eric Brooks - look him up if
you're still none the wiser, then all will become clear! Basically I'm a long
suffering (I say that in the nicest possible way) Blade, having started
supporting the Blades in the late 1970's. Whilst I am the site owner and
designer, I have to say I couldn't have got this far without the help of a
fellow Blade living out in Texas, USA strangely enough known by the name
'TXBlade'. Whilst I work in IT, my expertise is in large mainframe systems and
this was my first venture into web design. TXBlade remains my 'Technical
Director' offering advice and help when needed along with a new member to both
the Blades and Technical team EMVBlade they also provide the server where this
website is hosted. Whilst every fan could be mentioned, two other contributors
to the site that should be are; No.35 ODB (I'll let him explain his user name if
you ask him!). He's our roving reporter on the ground so to speak. ODB provides
the match reports that are uploaded to the Forum. and Staboblade (not sure where
that user name came from), who is running the Crossed Blades Cup - a predictions
competition for the season. He also provided a large number of photo's
originally to help the site get up and running. These people dedicate their
spare time and not inconsiderable funds to the running of this
website. Ultimately however it is the fans that dictate what direction it goes
in with their suggestions and contributions.
How do I submit articles/pictures/suggestions?
We welcome input from any Sheffield United fan (or even players and ex players)
who would like to comment on the Blades to ensure that we cover the widest
myriad of opinion as possible - whether you want to submit something as a
one-off, or become a regular contributer. The one thing that we do ask is that
if you are to submit material for the website, please ensure that it is free of
any copyright to ensure that we remain within legal requirements. If whilst
viewing the website you become aware of anything displayed that is copyrighted
elsewhere then please let us know so that we can remove it. Submissions should
be sent to
crossed.blades@yahoo.co.uk however if you simply have random photo's that
you want displaying we have created an album within the Gallery, where you can
upload these yourself.
You've got some great stuff on here. Can I use it?
We reserve copyright of all information/pictures listed on this website. However
we will consider every request on it's merits. Please email
crossed.blades@yahoo.co.uk with details of how you would like to use our
material and we'll get back to you as soon as possible. Please bear in mind that
the majority of the photo's are supplied by other fans and so we will seek their
permission first, which could result in a delay of our response to you.
I'm the next Pele and I want a trial at Sheffield United?
No matter how many emails and videos you send to us, we are fans and are not
affiliated with Sheffield United Football Club in any way. Much as we would love
to we cannot get you a trial. You should contact the club direct.
What a great website, but do you know what I could do for you?
Whilst all articles and suggestions are welcomed, we should point out that this
is a none commercial website. It is not here to make money, but is there for the
fans. We're sure they're very nice but we have no desire to advertise your
television packages, credit cards, or have our name and logo put on a pen
(unless you're giving them away for free - like we do with our time!).
Anything Else?
Hopefully we've covered everything, but if not contact us at
crossed.blades@yahoo.co.uk, or
leave us a note on the forum where we're normally about.
